Scene 6: Your Heart is as Black (Flashback)

A flashback reveals the dark truth to Wickham’s character. Wickham grew up like a brother to Darcy. But after the death of his benefactor—Darcy’s father—he quickly spent his generous inheritance, and earned instead a reputation for deceit, debt, and going after young women, including Darcy’s little sister, Georgiana. Wickham schemed to meet her, persuaded her that she was in love with him, and convinced her to elope! (He really wanted her inheritance.) Thankfully, Darcy caught Wickham at his plot in the nick of time.
